The pillowcase is the closest thing to you during your sleep and recovery. Its primary function is to protect the pillow and ensure that you always rest on a clean and fresh pillow. But its softness is important because it guarantees your comfort. A comfortable pillowcase will take you faster and deeper into dreamland and make you want to loll on it, as long as your need for rest is felt.
What size pillowcase should I put a 50x70 pillowcase on?
Pillowcase sizes are standard, there are generally two sizes: the 50x70 pillowcase and the 65x65 pillowcase. The 50cm by 70cm pillowcase fits over a pillow that is the same size. The size of the pillow depends on your needs: a large pillow with plenty of volume, or a small pillow with little volume, to each his own! Most of the time, 50x70 pillowcases close with what is called an envelope closure, which means that the fabric folds over itself to hold the pillow in place. But some pillowcases close with small buttons, sometimes even with a zip.
What material should I choose for my 50x70 pillowcase?
If today we tend to choose our bed linen for its design, for your pillowcase, it is the choice of the material which must be the priority. There are all sorts of natural or synthetic materials: cotton, linen, percale, bamboo viscose, polycotton ... But the only way to achieve comfort is to choose a pillowcase made of natural materials, such as cotton, linen or even silk. If you choose a pillowcase made of cotton or linen, prefer the labeled manufactures which guarantee you materials cultivated without pesticides, to avoid that the fabrics are full of chemicals. Silk is a very noble material, coming from a caterpillar and has, when used in bed linen, several virtues, including that of protecting and even moisturizing your hair. But silk has the disadvantage of not being very cheap.
Maintaining your 50x70 pillowcases
When you buy bed linen, it is advised to wash it before the first use. After that, it is recommended to wash it every 7 to 10 days with a mild liquid detergent. Cotton, linen and satin should be washed at 40°C maximum, so as to respect the fibres and not damage them. At this temperature you will obtain a perfect hygiene of your pillowcase. Silk should be washed at 30°C with a special silk detergent. It is preferable to dry all your bed linen in the open air.
