The Sonia Rykiel C.D.M. fashion house was founded in 1965 by Sonia Rykiel and her ex-husband Sam Rykiel. A fashion troublemaker, Sonia shook up the codes by creating backwards seams, clothes without hems and without linings. She invented what she called "demode". Her creations are associated with the image of a "feminine, free, sensual and independent" Parisian woman. Season after season, her collections mark the fashion world by their originality.

Sonia Rykiel and the environment
Her first boutique was opened in May 1968, at 6 rue de Grenelle, on the left bank of Paris. She was forced to close the shop because of the demonstrations. Already at that time, she had revolutionary inscriptions embroidered on her knitwear. Sonia Rykiel has always been an activist for the cause of women and a great believer in small everyday gestures to protect the environment.
Sonia Rykiel duvet covers, soon to be collectors' items
In 2016, the designer died at the age of 86 following her illness. The company having been bought by a Hong Kong group, it ended up losing its touch of originality, and had to lay off little by little, to end up in judicial liquidation on July 25, 2019. The Sonia Rykiel brand will leave behind a memory and an alley, in Paris, in the Saint-Germain-des-prés district. It is then likely that the pieces stamped Sonia Rykiel will become rare and collectors.
