silk and your questions
To judge if a silk is of the best possible quality, you will need to pay attention to what is called the grade, as well as the Momme. Grade A silk is the best quality available, as it is the result of the selection of superior cocoons. A grade silk is composed of long, regular, strong and extra soft threads. When it comes to silk, the unit used to measure the density of the fabric is the Momme. This can vary between 19 and 25 for a high quality silk. Beware of manufacturers who do not disclose the Momme weight of their silk sheets. Also, look for certified silk, so you don't choose sheets treated with chemicals that are harmful to you and the planet.
