The duvet has existed since the Middle Ages. In Northern Europe, a quilt covered with a linen fabric was already placed on the bed. It has made its way to our time, because not only does it keep us warm at night, but it also makes our bed in a few seconds!

The duvet cover in 260x240 fits all beds
WHAT DUET COVER AND DRAP COVER SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR A SINGLE BED?
Concerning the duvet cover, it must have the exact size of your duvet: for single beds, you can put a 90x190 duvet, with a 90x190 duvet cover, or a 140x200 duvet (to which you will put a 140x200 duvet cover) or opt for a 200x200 duvet (to which you will put a 200x200 duvet cover). These sizes do not take into account the length of the flap, the piece of fabric that extends beyond the duvet cover to allow the bed to be tucked in. Most duvet covers have a flap, but there are also duvet covers with buttons (ours for example), or even duvet covers with zips.
BABY AND CHILD'S BED COVERS AND DUVET COVERS
Baby or toddler beds come in different sizes such as 70x140, 70x120, or even 90x140. Some children's beds are scalable, so the bed linen will have to be adapted to each expansion of the bed. For the choice of fitted sheets, once again, the size of the fitted sheet must be equal to the size of the mattress. On your baby or toddler mattress, you will take 70x140, 70x120, or 90x140 fitted sheets.
What size duvet should I put on a baby bed?
In small cots with bars, we generally put a duvet of the exact size of the mattress, since the duvet cannot overflow on the sides. So, on a 60x120 cot, you would put a 60x120 fitted sheet, a 60x120 duvet and a 60x120 duvet cover.
For other cots, the duvet is usually sized so that it extends 20cm beyond the sides. So the correct size for a 70x140 cm children's bed duvet could be 120x150 cm. On a 70x140 bed you can use a 100x140 duvet with a 100x140 duvet cover.
The size of the duvet cover is easy to match with the duvet, as you will buy duvet covers of the same size as your duvet.
When choosing the size of your duvet and duvet cover, you can choose to go for a larger duvet, so that it overflows and covers the sides of the bed, which will give a cosy and comfortable look to your bedding. For example, if your bed is 160x200, you can use a duvet with a 240x220 duvet cover. Or for a 200x200 bed, choose a duvet with a 260x240 duvet cover.
DUET COVERS FOR TWIN BEDS
Twin beds are beds that have two box springs and two single mattresses next to each other. In this case you have the choice between separating the bed linen equally or buying a bed linen made for a double bed. Either you buy two fitted sheets, two duvets and two duvet covers designed for a single bed, or you buy a bed set for a double bed, and in this case you will opt for the size that takes into account the two mattresses stuck together. If it's two 90x200 mattresses, your fitted sheet will measure 180x200.
SELECTING YOUR BED LINEN SIZE
When you buy new bed linen, it's rare that you only need one item. Some brands sell bed linen in sets, i.e. with a set of matching items to make it easier for you to choose, sometimes the size relates to the size of the mattress, but sometimes it relates to the size of the duvet.
If the size of the bed set relates to the size of the duvet, your 140x200 duvet will find a 140x200 bed set. If it is the mattress, a 140x200 bed set will have a fitted sheet of that size and a larger duvet cover, so that it can fit snugly around the mattress.
The most common bed sets are 160x200, 200x200, 220x240 and 240x260 king size bed sets. Depending on the brand, you can choose each item separately. Some brands also offer bed sets that simply consist of a duvet cover and a pillowcase for single bed sets and two pillowcases for double bed sets.
